LAX Restaurants: Tom Bradley International Terminal Will Boast LA's Best Brands (PHOTOS)

Who knew LAX would turn out to be Los Angeles' next foodie hotspot?

After months of restaurant rumors, the airport has announced that 15 new eateries will open at the Tom Bradley International Terminal during the 2013-2014 renovation.

The restaurants, 13 of local provenance, are an impressive representation of some of the best places to eat and drink in LA right now -- 800 Degrees, Umami Burger, LAMill Coffee, Petrossian and Short Cake. There are also some chef-driven spots, like Michael Voltaggio's ink.sack, Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken's Border Grill and Suzanne Goin's Larder at Tavern.

We salute LAX for giving local businesses a leg up on the Tom Bradley expansion. More importantly, the three-hour wait for an international flight is going to be a lot more bearable if travelers can chow down on one last taste of home before their trip. The terminal's current crop of food counters leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Umami Burger

Probably the quintessential LA burger right now.

  • The Larder at Tavern

Suzanne Goin's rustic, wholesome fare is a favorite of President Barack Obama's.

  • Petrossian

The posh caviar spot will also be selling luxe gifts that travel well.

  • ink.sack

Michael Voltaggio's sandwich shop rivals his fine-dining spot a few doors down on Melrose Avenue for its gourmet sandwiches.

  • Chaya

The macrobiotic restaurant is a healthy option for travelers wary of fast food.

  • Fred Segal

The quirky LA-based shopping destination packs a lot of punch when it comes to local and independent designers.

  • 800 Degrees

From the same dudes at Umami Burger, 800 Degrees turns out a delicious pizza in about 8 minutes.

  • Border Grill

This bar is a nod to the Too Hot Tamales, Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger. They made a name for themselves in the 80s and continue to define LA cuisine with their food truck, restaurant collaboration and individual projects.

  • Tom Bradley International Terminal

    The (hopefully) finished project.
